Low Self-Esteem

"In a nutshell our Self-Esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves."

In a nutshell, self-esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves.

Everyone struggles with confidence at times — it’s part of being human. But when low self-esteem becomes a long-term pattern, it can have a real impact on your mental health. It can affect how you relate to others, hold you back from opportunities, and increase the risk of anxiety and depression.

How Low Self-Esteem Affects Life

Low self-confidence doesn’t just affect how you see yourself — it touches every part of life:

- Relationships and friendships

- Work and career goals

- Everyday decisions

- How comfortable you feel in your own skin

If you often feel “not good enough,” hold back from expressing your needs, or constantly doubt yourself — you’re not alone. And it can change.

Where Does Low Self-Esteem Come From?

Many people with low self-esteem trace its roots back to early life — school, family dynamics, or difficult experiences growing up.

As children, we don’t yet have the ability to separate what belongs to us from what belongs to others. We can internalise shame, criticism, or inconsistency and develop beliefs like:

“There’s something wrong with me.”

“I’m not good enough.”

These beliefs can quietly follow us into adulthood — but they’re not the truth of who you are.

How Therapy Can Help

In our work together, you’ll have space to explore:

- What may have knocked your confidence in the first place

- How your thoughts and behaviours are reinforcing low self-worth

- Ways to challenge self-critical or unhelpful beliefs

- Tools for building a stronger sense of your personal strengths and value

- Support to feel more secure and confident in relationships

Self-esteem can be rebuilt. Therapy gives you the space — and the support — to start that process.
